Jessica’s Project Fall 2019: Reproductive Health and Unplanned Pregnancy

Jessica’s Project is a civic engagement program that strengthens student interest in STEAM (Sciences, 技术, 工程, Arts and Mathematics) by connecting academic topics to issues affecting the local community.

This year “the event will highlight the rate of teenage and unplanned pregnancies in our community. While the rate of teen pregnancy across the U.S. 正在下降, Texas and 圣安东尼奥 still have higher than normal rates,卢尔德·阿尔巴说, SPC Faculty and Chair for Jessica's Project 2019-2020.

Through this program, 学生, faculty and staff have the opportunity to engage with the community by utilizing their skills to conduct research on topics the program will focus on. Part of the research is conducted by interacting with community members to learn about their experience with early pregnancy and reproductive health. The research will be featured during the event on Thursday, 11月14日, 2019, in the Bowden Alumni Center (3^rd floor of the Sutton Learning Center - SLC) 早上7:30到下午2:00.

Additional presentations on topics include: A Biological Approach to Human Sexuality, Choosing your Statistic (Safe Sex practices), Coping with Pregnancy, Contraception 101 and Prenatal care and the effects of nutrition and toxins.
