SPC’s Theatre Production: No. 6 by TJ Young
Rehearsals are underway for St. Philip’s College Theatre Production: No. 6 by TJ Young. Opening night will take place on Friday, November 15th from 8:00 pm -10:00 pm in the Watson Fine Arts Center Theater. A second viewing will take place on Saturday, November 16th from 8:00 pm -10:00 pm.
The play, directed by SPC Theatre Coordinator Andrew Heinrich, is based on the death of an unarmed black man at the hands of police in Cincinnati during 2001. The event put the city of Cincinnati on edge, resulting in a five-day riot that set the citizens of the city against the police force.
Additionally, No.6 features an African American family who was held up in their apartment in the wake of the police-involved shootings. The outside trouble invades the safety of their home when they bring an unconscious white man from outside into their apartment.
The play runs approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. After the opening night performance on November 15th, St. Philip’s College will host a panel discussion on Restorative Justice, featuring Fulbright Scholar, Dr. Derrick Wilson, Byrd Bonner and more.
General admission is $10. Admission for Alamo Colleges students and employees, seniors, SATCO and high school students is $5.

About TJ Young: TJ Young is a San Antonio native playwright. His plays include NO. 6 (2017 Harold and Mimi Steinberg Award Winner – KCACTF), LYON’S DEN, RUBY’S BABY BLUE (2016 John Cable Short Play Regional Selection- KCACTF), HELL IS EMPTY (2017 John Cable Short Play Regional Selection - KCACTF), HALLMARK (TETA Playfest 10-minute Winner), STUFFED, CUPID, and THE FRONTLINES. He is the recipient of the 2017 Ken Ludwig Playwriting Scholarship. He has had productions at Texas State University as part of their New Works Festival, Director/Designer Collaboration Project, and as part of their 2016-2017 Main Stage Season. He received his MFA in Dramatic Writing from Texas State University.
