Mathematics professor named Piper Professor nominee

St. Philip’s College mathematics professor, Matthew Hudock, has been named a Piper Professor nominee. The Minnie Stevens Piper Professor Award Foundation annually honors ten professors in Texas colleges and universities for outstanding achievement in the teaching profession. The award recognizes faculty for outstanding academic, scientific, and scholarly achievement and for dedication to the teaching profession. The awards aims to provide increased recognition of teaching excellence. Each award includes an honorarium and a plaque designating the recipient as a Piper Professor.

Mr. Hudock holds a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and Physics from Earlham College and Master of Science in Mathematics from North Carolina State University. He began as an adjunct instructor for Palo Alto College before being hired as a full-time professor at St. Philip's College in 1993. During the 1998-1999 academic year, Mr. Hudock received the Faculty Excellence Award.

In addition, Mr. Hudock has served as the Math Coordinator. Duties include building and handling the class schedule for the department, working with faculty in assigning their course load, and working closely with the department chair in managing course enrollment and adjunct faculty members. Mr. Hudock also serves as one of the college’s superusers, allowing him to help other department upload split loads and overrides into the system for their faculty. 

Most recently during the 2020-2021 academic year, Mr. Hudock received the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) Excellence Award.
