THE 2018 ST. PHILIP'S COLLEGE KIDS CAMP WITH MICROSOCIETY CONCLUDES WITH DAYS OF GOLF AND WEIGHTLESSNESS FOR 120 KIDS

More than 100 local kids finished fun final field projects at college last week before they returned to their elementary and middle schools this week.

After a day of weightlessness, 120 kids concluded their 10-week St. Philip’s College KIDS’ CAMP with Microsociety experience with a day of golf at San Pedro Driving Range at 6102 San Pedro Ave. The lighter than air experience was part of the team’s visit to a local iFLY.

Both events were new-to-do-for-2018 additions to camp programming, and lessons from a golf pro who’s a CEO were added as a bonus. The golf education program was led by 1987 college alumnus and San Antonio Junior Golf Association CEO Larry Whitfield.

The kids Whitfield helped took their first lessons in golf two months ago. At that time, Whitfield began his day on campus at 7:30 a.m., transforming campus facilities into golfable zones for 120 children near the 120-year-old college’s Fitness Center building. “I have my U.S. Golf Teachers Federation Master Golf Teaching professional certification, to help kids I teach. The kids really enjoyed it. They went to a golf course the last week of camp, and that way, they got a feel for what they were practicing for at the college this summer,” said Whitfield.

Parents are encouraged to contact the camp team for updates on innovative traditional and surprise programs their kids might be interested in spending time with in 2019.
