SPC’s 2020 HBCU Competitiveness Scholar Announced

The White House Initiative on Historically Black 大学 和 Universities (HBCU) announced the selection of student Amira Johnson as the St. Philip’s 大学 2020 HBCU Competitiveness Scholar. The initiative selects undergraduate, graduate 和 professional students who are recognized for successfully preparing to compete in top opportunities that improve long-term outcomes. Students are nominated 和 endorsed by their institution’s top administrators.

During the course of her one-year term, Johnson will engage in local 和 national opportunities that ignite new passions 和 explore ideas critical to lifelong growth 和 development. 除了, she will participate in monthly web chats that support a wide range of topics, 包括, 但不限于, the spirit of engagement 和 entrepreneurship, broad-based innovation 和 career development.

Johnson hopes to use her platform to promote community engagement, 学生领导, 和 mental health awareness. “I look forward to starting conversations that surround current issues in our community such as suicide, 抑郁和种族主义. I also want to encourage my peers 和 be a good example for those around me,” 她说.

Johnson is currently pursuing an Associate of Arts in Theatre Performance. She is involved in several campus organizations, 包括 Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, Student Government Association 和 the Music 和 Arts Club.
